Press release:
Headline: Windows into the Future of Afghan Civil Society
On September 7th 2022 an online, public event will be held to launch a set of scenarios on the future of Afghan civil society. The webinar will provide participants with insights about current and future possibilities for Afghanistan, as well as strategic knowledge about the opportunities different actors have to influence the future. The launch will be followed by an invitation-only press conference. An embargoed version of the scenarios will be released to the media on September 5th.
The scenarios are a collaboratively constructed set of four different imagined futures for Afghan civil society. The scenarios were written by a diverse group of 30 Afghan civil society activists, actors and experts.
The scenarios are a tool for exploring how different actors can move forward in uncertain times. They reveal key opportunities for change and how different actors can influence the future. Grounded in reality, they highlight where there is hope, and what risks must be avoided.
To create the scenarios the stakeholders used a methodology called Transformative Scenarios Process. It is an approach that brings concerned stakeholders from different, often competing, perspectives together around pressing sets of problems to build stories that illustrate a range of potential futures.
The process was convened by Folke Bernadotte Academy (FBA) under the umbrella of the EU Afghanistan Peace Support Mechanism and facilitated by Reos Partners.
The launch event is open to all and pre-registration is required.
