Dr. Omniya el-Baghdadi is a seasoned sustainability consultant with over 13 years of experience in research and consultancy across Australia and Egypt. Passionate about building capacity for resilient and livable cities, she holds a PhD in Environmental Economics from Queensland University of Technology, where she explored the business case for incorporating biophilic urbanism (nature-based solutions) into urban planning and design.

In her role as a Senior Sustainability Consultant with the Eco-Industrial Department at Chemonics Egypt, Dr. Omniya collaborates with government, the private sector, and key international development agencies and donors, including the EBRD, IFC, World Bank, AFD, AfDB, UNESCWA, UNIDO, CGIAR, and FiC. Her work encompasses managing projects related to sustainability, policy assessment, climate adaptation, gender equality, renewable energy, SDG impact assessment, and sustainable agriculture. Additionally, she serves as an Industry Fellow at the Cities Research Institute at Griffith University, contributing to the advancement of urban sustainability and resilience research and practice. Dr. Omniya has authored and co-authored numerous publications on biophilic urbanism, ecosystem services, sustainable development, and nature-based solutions.

Fluent in both English and Arabic, Dr. Omniya enjoys exploring urban environments and engaging with community initiatives that promote sustainability. In her free time, she loves yoga, hiking and immersing herself in nature, finding inspiration for her work in the beauty of the natural world.
