About

Claire McKendrick works with organisations to design, facilitate and deliver multi-stakeholder reform projects to produce innovative, impactful change at systemic level and contribute to improved outcomes. Over the last 15 years Claire has been responsible for large scale reform initiatives that address complex issues such as improving long term Aboriginal health outcomes, mental health reforms, NGO funding reform, and assessing and building organisational capacity across NSW Health. Claire is skilled at achieving alignment across diverse individuals and stakeholders, and designing innovative strategies and approaches that shift ways of working and drive great impact. Claire also helps leaders to build presence, awareness and effectiveness, by designing and facilitating leadership programs focusing on mindfulness and emotional intelligence.

Expertise

Multi-stakeholder collaboration, system reform, social policy development

 

Background

  • Worked as senior executive with NSW Health, providing high level policy and strategic advice to the senior leadership of the health system.
  • Worked with a Minister appointed reviewer to lead 5 year statutory review of the Mental Health Commission, developing recommendations to enhance the Commission's impact.
  • Worked with a Minister appointed reviewer to lead review of the Mental Health Review Tribunal in respect of forensic patients, delivering recommendations to strengthen and improve the system.
  • Served as CEO of youth leadership development NGO, running week-long transformational leadership programs supporting young people to lead change in their communities.
  • Led an extensive consultation and review process to develop new 10 year Aboriginal health plan for NSW.
  • Led a 20+ member project team to design and deliver a state-wide consultation assessing the governance and organisational capacity across NSW Health’s 19 Health services. Identified local and statewide opportunities to strengthen the health system and share learnings and best practice.
