Beginning in Elora in April 2009, a group from across the community worked to develop four possible future scenarios for the Waterloo-Wellington region of Canada. Two discuss the possibility of social disintegration, economic concentration and stagnation, loss of community identity and unmanaged growth. Read “A Town Divided” or “Bedroom Community.” Two scenarios explore the potential for cross-sector collaboration, community engagement, environmental stewardship and a thriving local economy. Read “Green Towers” or “Kaleidoscope.” Collectively, the four scenarios are intended to create a forum and language for open, reflective and reasoned strategic conversation among our community members about the opportunities, risks and choices these futures present.
