Reos Partners, the global social impact company bringing transformational change to complex societal issues, announces Mahmood Sonday as Managing Director of the Africa Office.

Mahmood Sonday is stepping into the Managing Director role for Reos Partners Africa from 1 January 2023. Since joining Reos as a Senior Associate in 2015, Mahmood has fulfilled various leadership roles before being appointed as a Director in 2020. Over the years, Mahmood has brought his business acumen to develop Reos’ client reach, leading strategic projects and supporting the company’s growth. Mahmood will assume overall responsibility for Reos Partners in Africa in his new position as Managing Director.

Mahmood has extensive experience in working with leaders on multi-stakeholder projects in healthcare, climate change, equity, energy, global development, and collaborative strategy. Before joining Reos, Mahmood led philanthropic impact investment transactions and has held senior roles in the public and private sectors, working on digital and business transformation.

“There’s an urgent and palpable need for work that is systemic, co-creative, innovative, and – most importantly – impactful,” says Mahmood. “Reos works globally on the most important societal challenges of our time, and I’m thrilled to step into the role of Managing Director to address our toughest challenges alongside clients and partners.”

Mahmood is taking over from Colleen Magner, a co-founder of Reos, who has played a leading role in building the Reos brand, craft, and business in Africa and globally. Colleen has led projects across a range of issues, including mining safety, child protection, gender-based violence, education, energy transitions, food systems, land reform, police and justice reform, climate resilience, public and private healthcare, and economic inclusion. She is taking on a new position as the Director of Practice and Innovation, focusing on evolving Reos’ offerings to amplify impact.

“The Africa office has worked on tackling intractable social issues with formidable partners and clients from diverse sectors and scales across the continent,” says Colleen. “We’ve built an excellent team and proven experience over the years, which puts us in an exciting position for the future. I can think of no one better than Mahmood to lead Reos Africa into its next chapter,” she concludes.
