What We Do

We believe that it is possible to make our societies better by bringing together diverse people and perspectives to recreate our systems and our selves. We know that actors facing complex challenges can work together to discover ways to address these challenges. We help build teams that are capable of such collective efforts to create better futures.

We work with our partners and clients on many types of complex challenges: energy, environment, development, health, education, food, finance, social cohesion. We work within and across business, government, and civil society organisations. We work at multiple levels—individual, team, community; region, nation, globe—across multiple cultures and multiple geographies.

We don’t have rigid recipes: our work is always tailored to the specific needs of the situation. We collaborate with our partners and clients to find practical ways to make progress on addressing their particular challenges. Over the years, our work has therefore taken many forms, including (but not limited to) change labs, learning journeys, scenario exercises, participatory research, facilitated workshops, and training courses.

Services

A change lab is multi-stakeholder effort to address a particular complex challenge in a given social system. Depending on the challenge and the system, a change lab can be quick or extended, modest or ambitious, delimited or open-ended.

A learning journey is a real-life trip from one place to another. It is an opportunity for a diverse team to explore and experience first-hand different dimensions of the complex system they are trying to understand and influence.

Scenario exercises enable teams of actors to create and work with stories about how the system they are part of might—not will, not should—unfold.

We help our partners and clients deepen their understanding of the current reality and future potential of the system they are part of, through research grounded in a disciplined synthesis of dialogue interviews of stakeholders from across the system.

We work with our partners and clients to organise, design, and facilitate customised workshops and conferences, drawing on a variety of participatory, systemic, and creative methods and tools.

Through our Reos Institute, we share our experience, approach, and methods to help individuals and teams build their capacity for innovative collective action in complex social systems.
