We co-convened a new learning platform focused on the human capacities of influencing and adapting to the future of climate change.
The 2009 Survival Academy was a temporary academy for participants and the general public during the United Nations Climate Change Conference (the "COP15" in Copenhagen in December 2009).
Convened by Reos Partners together with Bigger Picture, Unfolding Fields, and Pioneers of Change, the 2009 Survival Academy was a parallel and complementary process to the Climate Summit. The Academy recognised the importance of the inter-governmental negotiations in terms of addressing the political dimension of climate change, and sought to complement that with a process that is inclusive, participatory, systemic, and focused on the human dimension of climate change.
The core "happening" of this Survival Academy was a series of events running alongside the Summit on December 8-17, 2009. These events includes sessions on visual communication, community organising, strategy, connecting with nature, scenario development, leadership development, sustainable living, and more, all directly connected to the reality of climate change. They also included a film festival, exhibitions, and book launches.
