The “3E” (Economy, Energy, Environment) Initiative is designed to improve the quality and effectiveness of public and private climate change actions in Canada.

Canada faces a momentous challenge in making a successful transition to a high-efficiency, low-carbon economy. The purpose of the “3E” (economy, energy, environment) Initiative is to improve the quality and effectiveness of public and private action to address this challenge. The project recognizes that the goals of sustaining all 3 E’s—a prosperous and flexible economy, a dynamic energy sector providing a secure and affordable supply of energy services, and a healthy environment—are linked in multiple ways. We have helped initiate and build this alliance of leading politicians from all the major political parties; businesspeople from the energy, finance, and industrial sectors; and environmentalist activists and researchers. We have also supported the team in piloting a series of initiatives.

The team’s public statement, “Time to Get Serious on Climate Change,” which was signed by five former Prime Ministers and 70 other “unlikely allies," was launched through a partner initiative, PowerUP Canada. This campaign is also educating Canadians about how they can influence policy on climate change.
